My favorite artwork was this last project Identity. I liked this project because it represented my life and it made the project more meaningful. I think my best artwork was the identity one because it had the most meaning but my favorite one to make was the architecture project when I created the tiny house. If I were to redo a project I would redo the non-representational artwork. I really was struggling to come up with an idea and my project kept falling apart. Something that I have learned in this art class that can apply to real life is to be creative not just in making art. I also learned to make good choices and be kind to others :). One thing I wish we could have done in art class is to use clay.

My artwork is a watercolor drawing of me graduating in a cap and gown and my childhood self waving goodbye. I created this by having my sister take a picture of myself in a dress and sketch that out. I then found a photo of my childhood self to use. Once I finished sketching both my younger and present self I was brainstorming ideas on how I could color them in. I found inspiration on Instagram, inspo pic of the girl with long hair is attached below. I then picked my colors and began to "paint" it in. The hardest part was to create my hair color and Mrs.Underhill helped with that! After the colors were created it was pretty easy to shade it in. The big idea was to create something meaningful that represents me and my life. I did that by, sketching a childhood photo of myself waving. I then drew myself in my cap and gown walking the opposite way. My goal was to create kind of a sad yet happy drawing, sad that my childhood is done yet happy that I am on to bigger things. It is a very bittersweet time in my life right now and I thought this artwork represents that feeling well. I tried to connect things in real life and then little things that are symbolizing something through my artwork with colors. I used actual photos of myself as a child and now to sketch from. I used the same color dresses and the blue in the background I think gives it a sad vibe. I added a basketball by my childhood selfs feet because basketball was my life growing up and it helped shape me into the person I am today. In a couple months it will all be over and I am not ready to let go of it yet, but I have no choice now I have the amazing memories and lessons to remember and cling on to. I am very happy with the way this artwork turned out I think this one out of all my projects has the most meaning and thought behind it even though it may look simple to some. My idea is to draw me in my cap and gown and my childhood self waving at me. Another idea would be to draw me graduation and the other half of me in scrubs because I want to be a nurse. These are just some sketches and a list of things in my life. I also had to idea of having my childhood self in black and white and me graduating in color but I am not sure which would look better, I think the black and white would put more meaning behind it. I started out thinking that I would take pieces of wood and cutting them into different shapes and sizes. I would then use watercolor to make designs and patterns. After I created a color scheme I would form a pattern and glue them together making an abstract design. I got that idea from solving the art puzzle link on the slides provided. I realized I did not have enough pieces of wood to create a collage. I brainstormed trying to think of another idea. I knew I wanted to keep using watercolor. I had an envision in my head but could not pinpoint it so I googled non-representational art. I then saw kids using paper plates to create a sculpture. I thought I could use watercolor and create movement, pattern, balance, and emphasis on the paper plates. I tried using big paper plates and then cut a slit in the sides to connect them together to form my sculpture. That did not work, they were too heavy. So I engaged and realized I can cut the outside of the paper plate off so it is smaller and will hold. I ended up liking the way the smaller plates looked anyways. My final project demonstrates balance between the paper plates, pattern within my colors, movement between the designs of the watercolor, and emphasis on certain colors. Throughout this project I just went with the flow and used random tools to develop craft. For example, I used the tip of an eraser to get the watercolor on the paper plate, and then I blew on and tilted the plate to create my pattern and design. *My final project had a hard time standing on its own so I leaded it up against something Anthony Caro is the artist of Early One Morning that was created in 1962 he used painted steel and aluminum. Caro used art principles in his artwork for example balance, unity, and emphasis. He used balance by having each side different but it is balanced in the center visually. He used unity by having everything red. Caro also used emphasis by having his materials different shapes and sizes. Principles of Design: movement; use of recurring elements to direct the eye, contrast; wants focal point of an image by using different colors or textures, unity; all parts work together to be seen as a whole, balance; when elements of design are arranged symmetrically or asymmetrically to see the importance of weight, emphasis; special attention/focal point can be achieved through placement, contrast, color, etc. , pattern; regular arrangement of alternated or repeated elements, and rhythm; similar to movement direct eye through image. Elements of Art: texture; surface quality of an object, color; reflected light and organized color wheel, space; feeling of 3 dimensions or artists use of area within the picture, form; length, width, and height, shape; 2 dimensions length and width, line; reconizible path created by a moving point in space, and value; brightness or darkness of color. My made a model of a tiny house, it has two levels and five windows. I knew I wanted to make a house of some sort right away. I looked up tiny houses on pinterest and got some inspiration. I also drew sketches in my sketchbook. At first I wanted to make my tiny house in hawaii. I chose Hawaii because I would love to travel there one day or even live there for a few years. I love spending time outside and swimming, growing up my parents always told me if I didn't get out of the water I would turn into a fish. The meaning behind creating a tiny house is that I would be content and happy living in one, that I don't need some extravagant house to be happy. I found a video on YouTube by Justin Built that showed me how to make a tiny house model. I wrote down dimensions that I thought would work (12x6x9). It was hard for me to cut through the plaster and glue it together because I am not very handy at the stuff put persisted it definitely was not perfect but it worked! Once I got it all put together I was a struggle to think of things to add to it. I added tin foil to the top. I was talking to my dad to see if he had anything in the shed that I could use. He had wood scrap pieces. He helped me cut them and lay it on there with glue. We ended up running out of glue. We then resorted to tape and made the best out of it. My goal for this artwork was to do my best to make a tiny house model and add to it with the supplies that I had at home. My overall thoughts are that I am happy with the execution of my plan but I do wish I was more creative and could have added to it so some sides were not so plain.
I notice that there is a lot of color, buildings, and stuff going on in the artwork. When I say stuff- there is a bunch of faces, boats, fish, hearts, stars, and birds. I like all the colors it looks happy. Yes, I believe that his artwork is successful. It is successful because James Rizzi has original design you don't see artwork like his a lot. I also would say it may look like he throws it together but if you try and recreate some of it, it can be hard. James Rizzi has talent. Creating this artwork did not take to long, but if I were to do this again I would use better markers and outline lighter so it does not peak through. I liked how simple it was yet all the details added makes it one of a kind. I am going to create a tiny house mini model. I will use task board or cardboard. Mrs.Underhill has materials for the tin roof. I watched a YouTube tutorial on How to Build a Tiny House by Justin Built, he gave dimensions that I can look at for a guide! Which style of architecture are you most interested in? Modern Architecture What interested you in those buildings/styles? How simple, clean-cut, yet interesting they are. How will you apply this to your architectural sculpture? My architectural sculpture is a modern tiny house. So the styles go right along with one another. For today's observational drawing I drew my water bottle. It was a lot harder to draw than I expected, especially with the sticker I have on one side. We have had the options to work with plaster, bar of soap, and fabric. I decided to work with and sculpt a soap bar. I didn't quite know what I was going to make right away, but I did not want to give up. So I just started to scrape some of the sides off. Then an idea came to mind and wanted to make it into a woman with big, fluffy, curly hair. I did not finish sculpting the face completely but it sort of looks like a person if you had an idea before you look at it. I also added details of eyes but I do not have a final picture with that uploaded. We then moved on to fabric and I made a pumpkin! I am not very good at sewing but I tried my best. If I were to do this again I would take my time on cutting out my fabric and sewing them together. Overall I am happy with the way it turned out! |
